Advanced users:

This map was created using Google My Maps. As mentioned above, this map is a simple way to graphically display resources within an area having entered minimal information of services offered and linking each map pin to the institution’s information already in Google Maps.

It takes less that 30 seconds to link an institution inside Google My Maps to the information already in Google Maps. By doing it this way, any information updated in Google Maps will be automatically pulled through to this map.

Using the example in this picture, the only information that was manually entered were the Descriptor, Ward and Services fields. Everything else is automatically pulled from Google Maps. Anyone can click the “View in Google Maps” to see the information there and even update it. (Only those with access will be able to update the Descriptor, Ward and Services fields to ensure data integrity.)

Using an existing template, LEANs can generate maps for any municipality with its own layers for that region. It would be best to have all the maps on one Google account and permission given to certain people to edit each local municipal map to ensure data integrity. This particular map is named “LEAN KZN KIN uMhlathuze” with the following designation:
KZN=Province: Kwa-Zulu Natal
KIN=Dist/Metro Municipality: King Cetshwayo District Municipality
uMhlathuze=Local Municipality: uMhlathuze
